"Tri-State Trail Initiative: creating a linking system of trails between the Great Allegheny Passage and the Great Lakes Region.”

Great Lakes to Washington D.C. Alliance

1.  Pittsburgh to Cleveland

2.  Pittsburgh to Washington, D.C.

The Ohio River Trail (ORT) is a proposed route that would interconnect existing trails in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia. The Ohio River Trail is proposed to connect to the Great Ohio Lake-to-River Greenway at the Point of Beginning (PA-OH-WV state line) and the C&O Canal Trail via the Allegheny Passage and to the Susquehanna Greenway via Three Rivers Heritage Trail and the Pittsburgh to Harrisburg Mainline Canal. The Ohio River Trail is intended to become an important segment in a 500+ mile "mega-trail" from the Great Lakes region, through to Washington, D.C.

The establishment of a proposed "Great Lakes to Washington D.C. Alliance" would facilitate this Mega-Greenway in becoming a reality.  A four state agreement between trail interest groups from Maryland, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia would facilitate the formation of the proposed Alliance.
